The purpose of short-term care is to support the coping of family members and provide a child, young person or adult with disabilities with the opportunity to practise living outside their home. The objectives for your care period are determined together with you and the people close to you.
We can also arrange short-term care for the duration of your informal caregiver's leave or in various crises.
This care can be provided in a housing unit or family care, for instance. For our adult clients, we offer short-term care at the Aurinkolahti, Hyvönen, Tilkka and Mansku Group Homes. An equivalent service is available for children at disability services' Children's House.
Short-term care is generally subject to a fee. You can apply for the service through a disability services social worker working in your residential area.
How do I apply for short-term care?
Temporary care is applied for using the disability service application form.

If you receive a positive decision, we will select a suitable place of care from the city’s own housing units or family care providers. Alternatively, you can also purchase temporary care with a service voucher.
How can I learn more about the care places?
You can explore the places in the following ways:
- The City of Helsinki’s short-term housing units are listed under the heading ‘Service points’ below.
- You can explore the places available with service vouchers by using the service provider search at Palse.fi. Select “Helsingin sosiaali-, terveys- ja pelastustoimi” (Helsinki Social Services, Health Care and Rescue Services) as the grantor of the service and “Vammaisten henkilöiden harkinnanvarainen kodin ulkopuolella järjestettävä tilapäishoito” (Discretionary temporary care to be provided outside the home to a person with a disability) as the service.
